MY BELOVED WESTIES...

I am so honored to be one of the three candidates endorsed by the RTC to run for the Board of Education!

I feel invigorated and excited to begin this new adventure!  Although I've called West Haven home since the year 2000, I'm fairly new to the political scene.  It is obviously quite a benefit to be new as there are old and new factions in both parties who cannot see past their personal biases anymore. I am choosing to remain impartial, unbiased, and have a plan to use LOGIC and COMMON SENSE, something that seems to be lacking these days in the political world here in West Haven. Who can disagree with logic and common sense?  I know... trust me... I know....

Please click on the "General Information" tab above to see a shortened list of things I plan to address.  This is not an exhaustive list but merely a summary of my plans.  Most likely, if it is not on the list and you have something on your mind, I probably already have it in my plans.

My husband and I have three children we are very proud of.  My oldest, a 2014 WHHS graduate, is currently in her last year of graduate school in Massachusetts and was recently hired by the City of Salem in their Land Use & Planning Department.  While working there part-time, she also has an assistantship position at the university and is preparing a thesis regarding methane gas leaks, a major environmental concern throughout the world.  My second child is currently a senior at WHHS and is starting the application process to college and considering ROTC.  My third child is currently in 8th grade at Bailey Middle School.  All three started daycare at the Green, then went to Pagels, Carrigan, etc.

I am also very proud of my husband, David, who has spent to date 33 years with Sikorksy Aircraft and invests his free time with our youth as a leader with Boy Scouts Troop 899 here in West Haven.

In 1996 with the birth of my first child and wanting to be a stay-at-home mom, I risked everything; quit my job, invested all the money I had, and started my own court reporting business, which I still run today.  It has been a true success story and one I'm very proud of.  My background is mostly legal but being a parent of three children, I have spent to date 18 years actively involved in the West Haven Public School System. Some of the things I have been involved with are the high school's Governance Council with our lost angel, Pam Gardner, and have also served on the PAC Council with the wonderful and most gracious Rose Paolino.  I have been heavily involved with many of the Special Needs staff and support throughout each school as well.

I am an outside of the box thinker and problem-solver. I have years of personal experience with the way the school system works.  With this experience, I feel I can help bring new ideas and assist on problems revolving around our budget, student life, retention, the overall graduation rate, student behavior, etc.

Lastly, we have phenomenal teachers here in our system.  I recognize that without these teachers, I could not have the blessings I have with my children.  They are an enormous and material part to every success of each of my children, and yours.  We must support them much more.  It takes a community to raise a child; and let me tell you, these teachers do their part tenfold. We must take back our education system and stop the nonsense and distractions that do not concern education!

I want to thank everyone, from those two people who brought up the idea for me to run, to those who have supported me to this point, and I sure hope to receive support from you, the registered voter, in West Haven, no matter which party you are registered with. Please contact me directly if you would like to discuss anything related to the Board of Education at all.  I can be reached at driveral@sbcglobal.net or at (203) 909-3676.
